How to Get to Phillip Island Nature Parks by Public Transport
Travel time: 2 hours 25 minutes
Closest station: Cowes
You can take a public bus from Melbourne to Phillip Island. These buses operate regularly, however, make sure you check the timings beforehand. If you take the V/Line bus, it will take about 2 hours to reach the San Remo bridge and about 25 minutes from there to reach Cowes. If you’re traveling from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne, please note that the buses stop at different points around the island including Cowes, Newhaven, Surf Beach, Cape Woolamai, and Sunderland Bay.

For those of you who’d like to travel by train, you will have to catch the train and then get onto a bus to reach Phillip Island. Catch the train from Melbourne CBD and disembark at Dandenong Station. The journey takes about 40 to 50 minutes. From here, catch a bus to the Cowes. The second journey will take a little more than an hour.

Another option is to take a ferry to Phillip Island. The ferries depart from Stony Point, which is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from the south of Melbourne. Board the Western Port Ferry and alight at Cowes Jetty. There is one short stop in between at the French Island. The entire journey takes about 45 minutes, making it a quick, efficient, and cost-effective way of getting to the island. You can either drive to the starting point or take a train there. If you’re traveling by train, take the train from Melbourne to Frankston and change the line to get to Stony Point.
